Jalan-jalan ke Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, rasanya kurang nikmat tanpa berkunjung ke Jalan Alor. Apa sih yang istimewa di Jalan Alor? Ya, disinilah pusat wisata kuliner jalanan alias street food yang paling meriah dan happening di seantero KL. Sebenarnya kuliner jalanan di sini sedikit berbeda dari kebanyakan kuliner jalanan lainnya karena sebenarnya makanan yang dijajakan mayoritas berasal dari restoran permanen di pinggir jalan, bukan kaki lima seperti biasanya. Namun, kursi dan mejanya digelar hingga memenuhi separuh badan jalan sehingga terkesan sangat ramai. Ditambah lagi lampion-lampion yang digantung sepanjang jalan menambah semarak suasana yang sudah ramai.

Jalan Alor sangat mudah dijangkau dengan transportasi kereta monorel. Anda bisa turun di Stasiun Imbi maupun Bukit Bintang. Kalau dari Stasiun (Stesen dalam Bahasa Melayu) Imbi, Anda tinggal berjalan menyusuri Lorong Pudu atau Jalan Bulan menuju Jalan Bukit Bintang, lalu arahkan langkah ke Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang, maka Jalan Alor akan terlihat jelas di kiri Anda. Jika dari Stesen Bukit Bintang, tinggal langkahkan kaki ke Jalan Bukit Bintang seperti halnya petunjuk di atas. Dari Plaza Low Yat, pusat penjualan IT dan telekomunikasi terlengkap di KL, Jalan Alor bisa dijangkau kira-kira 10 menit jalan kaki.

Suasana Jalan Alor akan mulai semarak menjelang malam. Jalan ini sebenarnya hanyalah sebuah jalan aspal lurus biasa dengan restoran-restoran di sepanjang jalan. Yang membuat berbeda adalah semua restoran memasang kursi dan meja makan hingga jalan nyaris tertutup. Namun demikian, mobil masih bisa lewat meski dengan perlahan-lahan. Tak cukup sampai di situ, lampion-lampion merah khas tradisi Cina dan lampu-lampu jalan bergelantungan sepanjang jalan, membuat suasana begitu meriah.

Olen, Oliq, dan saya berjalan perlahan-lahan menyusuri Jalan Alor sembari melihat-lihat menu yang ditawarkan. Sebagian besar restoran di sini menawarkan Masakan Cina, karena memang pemiliknya adalah warga Malaysia etnis Tionghoa. Nah, pastinya buat umat muslim harus hati-hati karena kebanyakan restoran ini menjual babi sebagai salah satu menu andalan. Tapi jangan kuatir, ada juga yang hanya menjual seafood yang dimasak khas Cina, pastinya dengan tampilan yang sangat menggoda selera.

Oya, yang khas dari Jalan Alor adalah para sales restoran berlomba-lomba menawarkan menu kepada setiap pejalan kaki yang lewat. Tidak perlu merasa terganggu, meski lumayan intens mendekati Anda, mereka cukup sopan. Kalau Anda tidak mau cukup geleng-geleng atau diam saja, mereka pun tidak masalah apalagi sampai marah-marah.

Kami terus menyusuri Jalan Alor hingga pertengahan jalan. Lepas pertengahan, ternyata deretan restoran berubah dari masakan Cina menjadi masakan Thailand. Rupanya seperti ada zona di Jalan Alor ini, ada Zona Masakan Cina dan Masakan Thailand. Ada pula masakan unik seperti Frog Porridge alias bubur kodok khas Thailand.

Berhubung dari kemaren Simbok memang ngidam sate ayam, kami mencoba peruntungan mencari sate disini. Setelah berjalan beberapa saat, akhirnya sukses menemukan bakul sate yang hanya menjual sate ayam, sapi, dan kambing. Di sini olahan sate agak berbeda dengan di Indonesia karena bumbu satenya cenderung gurih dan diberi wijen, bukan bumbu kacang dan kecap seperti umumnya di Indonesia. Dagingnya cukup empuk dan tidak prengus, sepertinya dia memang direbus terlebih dahulu. Bumbunya juga cukup enak, meskipun terasa aneh karena persepsi otak Jawa yang mengharuskan sate dibumbui kacang dan kecap hehehe….

Tiba saat membayar, harga satu porsi sate isi 10 tusuk adalah RM 12, tapi tidak termasuk nasi. Kami juga memesan satu bakul nasi untuk bertiga seharga RM 3 saja. Lalu minuman es jeruk dan es sirup harganya hanya RM 2 per gelas. Jadi total seorang kira-kira hanya menghabiskan RM 15. Cukup murah untuk ukuran makan-makan di tempat wisata kuliner yang paling populer di KL ini. Sekedar perbandingan saja, sekali makan di KLCC paling murah sekitar RM 8 termasuk minum, tapi itu biasanya hanya nasi lemak bungkus dan es the. Kalau sate pasti di atas RM 10. Oya, RM 1 kira-kira Rp 3700 untuk kurs saat ini.

Ada pula pemandangan unik di Jalan Alor ini. Saat kami sedang makan, ada 2 orang pengamen yang lewat sambil menyanyikan lagu Cina. Rupanya pengamen ini adalah ibu tua yang buta dan dituntun seorang ibu yang lebih muda. Mereka hanya menyanyi sambil berjalan, tapi tidak menodong ke pengunjung seperti kebanyakan pengamen lainnya. Jadi kalau Anda ingin sedikit berbagi, tinggal datangi mereka dan memasukkan uang ke dalam kotak donasi. Saran saya, sumbanglah sedikit rejeki Anda untuk mereka yang tetap mau berusaha di tengah keterbatasan fisik tanpa menggangu orang lain.

Selain restoran-restoran, sebenarnya ada pula warung kaki lima yang menjual masakan melayu, aneka minuman, hingga lapak CD. Pokoknya, jangan pergi ke KL Malaysia tanpa mengudap di Jalan Alor. Bon Apetite….
